SUPER 6IX TEAM RACING

WEEKLY FRIDAY RACING
Competition Format

Welcome to Super 6IX Team Racing

Teams consist of FIVE riders, each having a specific role to play each race with one rider nominated as the Wildcard rider to make the 6th element of the racing format.

Series racing is organised across TWO Conferences NS and EW covering FOUR geographic regions. Each region there can be up to FIVE Leagues and each League can have a number of Divisions – all depending on sign up.

Race times will be 1830 to 1930 local time, aligned as follows:

  • EUROPE  – NS Conference – Aligns to London – 1830
  • APAC – NS Conference – Aligns to Sydney – 1915
  • US EAST – EW Conference – Aligns to New York – 1900
  • US WEST – EW Conference – Aligns to Calgary – 1900

The Series will run THREE rounds of FIVE races with promotion and relegation in operation at the end of each round, the series will build towards the Conference playoffs and then the World Final.

What is the Series aim ?
To be crowned the Ultimate Racing Team in your League.  To have a chance your Team must be in the top division for that League by round 3 and then finish in the top 5 teams to enter the Playoff Stage of the Series.

How do the Playoffs & World Finals work ?

There are two Conferences NS and EW, the playoff brings together the two regions within each Conference to determine the best Teams to represent them in the World Final.

To qualify for the Conference playoffs Teams must;

  • get to Division 1 of their League and,
  • finish in the top 5 places by the end of round 3

Each League Playoff will be contested by just 10 Teams in a POINTS race utilising Roles and Wildcard. The top 5 scoring teams from each conference playoff will progress to the World Final.

The World Final will bring together the Conference Playoff winners for each League in a POINTS race to determine our 6IX World Champions.

How will the League Races work ?

The Series consists of three rounds of 5 races, at the end of each round the top 3 Teams will be promoted and the bottom 3 teams relegated where more than one Division exists. The Series uses 3 race formats:

  • SCRATCH – Teams will be ranked by their combined finish position, where all riders count. Resulting will rank teams in order of Team participants (ie. Teams with 5 riders will rank higher than Teams who only field 4 riders etc..) – to earn Team League points Teams must have at least 1 finisher. Roles are not relevant.
  • Combined ITT – Teams will be ranked by the combined finish time of the first 3 riders to finish the course. Resulting will rank teams in order of Team participants (ie. Teams with 3 riders will rank higher than Teams who only field 2 riders etc..) – to earn Team League points Teams must have at least 1 finisher. Roles are not relevant.
  • POINTS – Teams will be ranked by the total number of rider points scored, all Team riders will be counted – to earn Team League points Teams must have at least 1 finisher, roles are in play

What are the rider Roles and who decides them each race ?

First, roles are in play for POINTS races only. Each race the Team Manager will allocate riders their role, considering the course and the riders available – roles can be changed each race. We have four roles as explained below:

  • GC Rider1 rider per team who will earn finishing points against all other GC riders only, plus finishing points when considering all riders in the race together
  • Climber2 riders per team who will earn win climbing points against all other Climbers only, plus finishing points when considering all riders in the race together
  • Sprinter2 riders per team who will earn  win sprinting points against all other Sprinters only, plus finishing points when considering all riders in the race together
  • Wildcard1 rider per team will be allocated the Wildcard Challenge (WCC), as detailed by the 6IX. Schedule page
    • Complete the Challenge and Teams will earn a bonus League Point which could make al the difference at the end of the season when considering the top 5 teams qualifying for the Playoffs.
    • Wildcards are used in the Playoffs and the World Final – for these Teams will earn an extra Team point which are used to rank each Team in those finals.

What happens at the end of each Round and the Series ?

The top 3 teams of each division will be promoted and the bottom 3 relegated. Leagues will persist so where you finish at the end of round three is where you start in the next Series.

In the event of a tie on Team points rank will be determined by:

  • Total Finish
    • Total Segment
    • Climb Total
    • Sprint Total

Rider Classification
To grade a rider we will use a riders Zwiftracing app OPEN Max 30 day vELO rating value for Mixed Racing which is recognised as an accepted indicator of performance.

Women only Racing If there are sufficient Teams and riders we will use the WOMENS MAX 30 day vELO rating to grade riders.

Registered riders who show Race Needed – No history will need to have completed THREE races where racing has been tracked by ZRapp, this excludes TTT, Community or Group rides, ZRL non scratch events… zero scores will falsely rank riders higher… so if you want to race in the right place – Go Race and build your profile…

There will be no exceptions to not having sufficient history.

Why is your Class relevant?

Leagues are restricted by the class of rider they can select, as shown by the table below. Riders are free to ride for any Team at any level their class qualifies them to ride.

ie. BON/Platinum rider can compete in any Team in the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Leagues and if their vELO rating is less than or equal to the upgrade limit (Mixed 1200 / Women only 800) a BON rider can continue to compete in the Delta League.

Upgrade Limits

6IX runs from October to the World Finals in March, vELO scores will rise and fall in this period. The upgrade limits shown below allow upgraded riders to remain racing in a League as long as their vELO rating does not exceed the upgrade limit shown. Once a rider becomes too powerful for a League they will nolonger be selectable.

Playoff – World Final – Eligibility

To ride in the playoff phase a rider must have ridden THREE times for their playoff Team in the Season and still be within the classification group for that Team at the start of the playoffs.

Once the playoff phase completes riders who competed will remain eligible for the World Finals, regardless of upgraded level or rating.

Following the announcement of the collaboration with Octaine we can reveal the incentives and prizes the Series will offer to riders for taking part.

Sign up Giveaway

Each 6IX Registered rider who also signs up to Race Rewards Will be able to order (from November) the Octaine and FRR embroidered 210 fitted CAP as shown below, with just postage to pay

Conference Playoff and World Finalists

Each Team that reaches the respective finals will earn themselves Team and event personalised clothing, we expect these to be T-shirts and/or Hoodies (TBC by November) – images will be updated here shortly – Teams who progress to the World Final will receive World personalised merchandise only, with only postage to pay.

Team REGION – LEAGUE – DIVISION
Team Managers determine where they want their Teams to race by selecting their REGION and at what level by selecting their LEAGUE as dictated by the riders they have available, however anyone can create a 6IX Team and become a Team Manager.

Team DIVISION will be determined by the TEAM QUALIFICATION RACE, a single scratch race to rank teams. Refer to the ‘Team Qualification Race‘ section

ie. the top 15 form division 1 etc.. (tbc)

Depending on Club and Team signup there may be only ONE division, this will be determined when we look to form the Leagues in which case qualification will not be necessary.

Team Rosters are unlimited to ensure there is complete flexibility to ensure Teams have a full set of riders each race.

Equipment

    • All riders must use a Smart Trainer as their Primary Power Source in the Alpha League
      • Power meters may be used as a primary power source where a Smart Trainer is not available in all other Leagues
    • Riders with Trainers/bikes without power meters (ZPower) are excluded
    • SPIN bike based setups are NOT allowed for 6IX
      • Riders found to be using these setups will be removed from the competition along with the points they have won
      • Spin setups are less accurate and produce more watts for less effort
    • Riders are expected to use a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), abnormal performances without HRM may result in event exclusion
    • Bike frames will be allocated for all riders (Zwift AERO/TT) – upgrades will be neutralised (sorry), riders may choose their own wheelset
    • Dual recording is not mandatory however experienced riders understand the benefit and equally the pitfalls
    • Riders who upgrade to ‘ELITE’ level must
      • Dual record
      • Have Open Strava accounts with IRL performances to support their indoor classification

Race Respect
We all race for fun however we have all come across riders who ride on the dark side or don’t read the rules of the competition. We ask all riders to manage these situations with respect by following these simple rules when in events.

  • When in PEN you can remind riders of the rules on showing their role code or where they should be, a simple edit will fix very quickly but bear in mind some riders do not show the messages or use Companion App or perhaps understand your language
  • When in race, riders should refrain from calling out riders either openly or privately as ‘resulting’ will highlight them to race control and PEN Penalties can be applied as per the rules
  • Riders can submit rider challenges direct to RACE CONTROL via email or direct message on the FRR Discord server – Never do this openly and be assured that Race Control will review every request in the pursuit of fun, fair racing for everyone

Race Pass Access
Within a riders Profile is a section titled MY TEAMS

Team cards will show when a rider has completed their weekly Race Verification submission, refer to the section in your Profile which explains the purpose and intention of the submission.

TEAM CARDs will show all selected riders and the race pass link. When the pass opens riders must ensure they select the right PEN for their Team, racing in the wrong PEN will earn you ZERO points.

The Team card tells you which PEN to choose which aligns to your Team League.

Registration & Racing Requirements
All riders must meet the minimum requirements for accounts and equipment:

  • Riders must be OPTED IN to share their race data with ZwiftPower from their Zwift Profile Connections
  • Riders must have created and connected a ZwiftPower account – full instructions on this can be found here
  • Riders must have an FRR account to allow Team Managers to select them for a Club Team
  • Riders must be registered for the Series
    • Create an FRR Account if you do not have one
    • Register for the Series by Clicking Event Registration in your Profile then click +Enter New Event and select the Series from the list
  • Riders must complete at least THREE (3) Zwift race events prior to racing in the pilot or main series this is to set a baseline position for all riders.

Race Verification (Weekly)
All riders must complete a WEEKLY Race Verification, this simply requires each rider to confirm their BIO and Smart trainer details which must match their Zwift racing account, so if you are seeing the message below anywhere then quickly go to Race Verification and complete your submission.

Why is this important ?  Race Passes will be withheld until submissions have been completed…. NO BIO update NO RACE PASS

Race Rider Name (In Companion app)
Riders are requested* to identify their role in their Companion App Lastname as follows, for the PILOT Series Wildcard scoring will not be in play as the pilot is on an individual basis

  • Climber add (CL) to the name
  • Sprinter add (SP) to the name
  • Wildcard add (WC) to the name

ie. Jill Jones (EVO) (SP) or John Smith (FRR) (SPWC)

(*)  We ask Team Managers to promote and encourage their riders to support these requests to enhance the racing experience for everyone.

SCRATCH Races –  Scoring
All roles are not relevant in these races, all riders are classed the same.

Team Registration
All FRR account holders will be able to create and manage Teams. Team Registration is OPEN.

Management is a 2 step process.

  1. Step 1 – Register a Team and decide the region and level of competition
  2. Step 2 – Manage selection when the series starts take your team to glory!

Team Rosters are unlimited to ensure there is complete flexibility to ensure Teams have a full set of riders each race.

Team Management
Team managers have a great deal of responsibility to coordinate riders, select teams etc… the success of the Team and the event relies on Team managers so we must ensure we keep things simple, intuitive and support you all the way, to help…

  • All riders who have created a Team will become Club Team Managers
  • All Club Team Managers will be able to edit all Teams within their Club only

It is the responsibility of the manager to form Teams correctly:

  • Each Team must have an appropriate name
  • For a rider to be selected for a Team their FRR PROFILE RACING CLUB must match the CLUB of the Team Manager
  • Riders may only be selected for ONE Team for each race, but can race for other Teams during the Series
    • Managers will need to deselect riders from Teams to release them for selection for another Team or Club – contact Race Control if you need admin assistance

Team  Selection Timetable

  • Wednesday Team selection can start (0800UTC). Teams are amendable up to Friday race time.
    • Riders complete their weekly Race Verification attestation
  • Thursday Race passes available for race verified riders
  • Friday race day and Teams lock at race time
  • Weekend Resulting and reviews
  • Monday all riders are released from their Teams to allow vELO ratings to move ahead of selection and we head back towards Wednesday

FridayAfter each race Team selections will be reset (Monday), this unlocks riders for all Teams and equally allows vELO ratings to be checked before selection can occur for the next Race.

Race Selection will begin each Wednesday for Team Managers, to allow a riders vELO rating to develop from other racing events.

For New Club creation FRR account holders must first contact RACE CONTROL by email so initial setup can be done.

Team Promotion – Relegation
The Series consists of 3 rounds of 5 races. At the end of each round the top 3 Teams will be promoted and the bottom 3 Teams will be relegated, all on the assumption there is more than one Division in the League. Relegation may be adjusted if Teams resign their League place.

Late Join New Teams can join the Series at the end of each round, and will be placed in the lowest Division within the Region and League selected by the Team Manager.

Resignation Teams can resign from the Series at any point, Team Managers are requested to inform Race Control so appropriate adjustments can be made

VADA Rider Checks
During events riders will produce high performance, it is the responsibility of Race Control to monitor performance and look to maintain a fair racing position across all classes – as this is not just applicable to the highest most powerful riders. We do take this responsibility seriously, we get that we all do this for fun but that doesn’t mean we accept riders who choose the dark side of virtual racing.

Verification will be performed by the FRR vada (FRR Virtual anti doping agency) formed from experienced trusted riders from within the Zwift community who compete and contribute to FRR events.

FRR vada will recommend one of three options to Race Control:

  • No action required
  • Time sanction
  • Event removal/ban

All information submitted will remain confidential and Race Controls decision will be final.
Verification can take place at any point and the process is as follows:

  1. Race Control contacts riders and Team Manager via email/Discord privately
  2. Riders may be requested to provide:
    • Height and weight video to verify their BIO details
    • Zwift setup video including smart trainer, pedals etc..
    • Strava and Zwift accounts if private must be granted access to Race Control and .fit files made available for requested events
    • Rider may be asked to give their consent to Zwift via email, which Race Control has started, to allow Zwift to confirm to Race Control the Smart Trainer used for the Tour events in question
    • Rider photo ID may be requested to further assure the person in a submitted video is the rider with the request
  3. Riders will be given a suitable amount of time (normally 24 hrs) to review and provide the information requested.
  4. Riders who fail to cooperate within the time set will have time penalties applied to remove any impact on fellow riders (since we have no ability to prevent a rider from competing) and post Tour excluded from entering future events. We equally notify Zwift.
  5. FRR Jersey holders will have those Jerseys removed

As the Series builds the FAQs will build, this section is split between Team Manager and Rider based questions.

Q: How many Teams can a Racing Club Register

  • A: Clubs are not restricted on how many Teams they can register in a Region/League

Q: What is the minimum number of Teams needed for a League and what would happen if the minimum is not reached

  • A: Divisions need at least 5 Teams. Teams registered for Leagues that do not meet the minimum will be offered a division in the next best option

Q: How many riders must race each week for the Team to get points

  • A: A minimum of ONE rider needs to race for a Team to earn team points.

RIDER Q&A

Q: Can a rider register at any time

  • A: Yes, new riders can register at any time (should have vELO)

Q: Can a rider race multiple races each week

  • A: No, riders will be restricted to one 6IX race each week as they will be locked in their Team until the Monday after the Friday race

Q: How is a riders’ CLASS judged

  • A: For Mixed racing we use the 30 day Max vELO OPEN rating to define class, and for Women-Only racing, the Women’s rating value

Q: At what point does a rider upgrade and must move up a League

  • A: Rating upgrade levels are shown in the rules under the ‘Classification Rider’ section. vELO ratings that reach the value shown will not be selectable for Teams in Leagues where they are now too powerful

Q: Why is Race Verification important

  • A: These are our first steps in building collective race responsibility, we ask riders to confirm BIO, setup and ensure their Zwift account matches. Resulting will check and highlight differences. Riders who do not complete verification will have Race Passes hidden. All entries are date and time stamped so think twice before sharing to avoid the process – as it will be your Team that incurs penalties
